ABOUT US

Tom with Pearl and Etta

Through a number of dog training scenarios over the years, be it pet dog training obedience classes, Assistance Dog training and placement, or Law Enforcement K9 applications a common theme surfaces, and re-surfaces. Owner/ handlers are simply not aware of "how things work" in a canine. Why exactly do they do the things they do, and how do I get them to start/stop?

In the world of dog training, opinions and answers abound. The trouble is, many are based on anecdotal evidence, or supposition... "Dogs can sense when their owner is going to have a seizure, but only a few dogs are born with this innate ability... " "Dogs can detect cancer by their sense of smell, but we don't really know what it is they are smelling..." "Bloodhounds are the best dogs for tracking, they have the best noses..." "To assert your Alpha dominance over the dog you need to..." We need, and we seek, real concrete answers to many of these questions, especially those where the performance of the dog ultimately affects life and limb. We teach, as Oprah would say, "What we know for sure..." technical information verified by well established University research that spans over two decades. This information, combined with positive reinforcement, motivational training methods with proven productivity track records is the basis of what we do in K9.

Tom Brownlee, who heads up psd Canine Logistics, during the course of events was to be introduced to Chris Aycock, the President of the American Society of Canine Trainers. This was to be life changing. ASCT is the most technologically advanced Law Enforcement K9 training organization in the United States. Through ASCT and Chris, education came quickly and Tom progressed up the certification ladder from Handler, Master Handler, Senior Master Handler, Civilian/ Departmental Trainer, to his present position as Master Trainer. Tom also has been certified as Assistance Dog Level 1 Trainer and Assistance Dog Level 2 Trainer.

Throughout this progression not only Chris Aycock but a number of Trainers and Handlers within ASCT have always given of themselves and their knowledge selflessly and freely. To them we owe our gratitude, our loyalty, and our thanks.

Tom has also been certified as a pet obedience trainer, and an AKC CGC evaluator, and is a member in good standing of IAADP (International Association of Assistance Dog Partners). The initial thrust of his work was involved mainly in Assistance Dogs for the disabled, but has expanded and evolved to include Therapy Dogs, and Narcotics Detection Dogs. Also, Tom has been hosting Owner Training Schools for those wishing to train their own Service Dog either for themselves or for a disabled family member. Tom has a passion for working with "high performance", intelligent dogs - Border Collies, Aussies, GSDs and others - the type of dogs pet owners often find challenging, and working professional handlers revere.

The main focus then, at Canine Logistics, is education. Education of the owner/handler. Technical, usable and logical information that will produce results when training anything from a pet to a performance dog. Tom will be presenting this information in a logical, progressive manner in a series of in-depth seminars, or a one-on-one consultation and training basis.
